Every one us usually just try to do our best, there are those perfectionists who would like to think they are doing things better than most, but often they simply can’t because there is some lack of knowledge or because we tend to get used to doing things, sometimes we learn how to do the most basic things from our parents who learned it from their parents and it goes on. It would be nice, however, to stop for a second and realize what we might be doing some things wrong so that we can change the pattern and make some things right. Here are a few of those things:
It is hard to work sometimes, especially during the days of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, you name it. We tend to think it is ok to multitask, to have multiple tabs opened in the browser, listening to music, and chatting with others while answering text messages on your smartphone. It seems we can pull these things off, but reality hits and we are behind and sometimes we just get lost in these things, away from our focus. The key here is willpower, taking breaks and making sure you get enough sleep. Work requires focus, focus is impacted by a number of things, like a proper night sleep and doing things that make you feel happy, for example if you enjoy music, if possible listen to music.
Showering can be something we take for granted, living in Canada, I am blessed to be able to take a bath anytime I want, however we can also take for granted easy we can fail at doing such seemingly simple task. One the things we tend to wrong in the shower is shampooing our hair more than a few times per week. This is bad because when you, and especially depending on the ingreditents in the shampoo you are using, use shampoo you might be ridding off important oils in your hair, some of which are called sebum, thus making your hair greasier, because when sebum is removed, it makes oil glands to compensate by producing more sebum. It also happens that we spend more time than necessary in the hot shower, we also make our skin dry, removing some good bacteria in the process.
We have our issues with food, sometimes we overeat and undereat, it happens all the time. But there are some patterns that continously reoccur, one of them is consuming way to much meat, especially red meat, often because of fast food. In addition to this, we sometimes eat too fast, when we do this, we disrupt our body’s natural perceive when it is enough and thus trick your mind into thinking you need to eat more. In addition to this, we are often unaware of what’s in our food, and don’t pay attention to certain chemical additives which can lead us to faster to our demise.
The number of times we breath in one day is estimated to be 17,000 times a day. Hardly do we give the way we breath a second thought, but breathing is connected to a number of things as the amount of oxygen our body ratings and the amount of CO2 our body does not need is key to our health. When we don’t bring correctly our skin does not receive the oxigen it needs and thus suffers, if our brain doesn’t recover enought oxygen it can lead to depression. It is no wonder that one of the core principles of yoga is proper breathing, and indeed if a yoga session, when done right, can leave us feeling healthier and relaxed.
No I am not talking about pronunciation. What I mean is the things we say that we don’t give a second thought about. Often it is the rhythm, tone and what do say is important too, it is so hard to tune in to people’s feelings, but if we do put an effort, it could save us a lot of trouble and most of the time it will save anguish to those we unintentionally hurt. Of course, in speaking I would include typing, because conversations happen in the internet sphere, whether it would be through social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook, blog comments, YouTube comments, etc.
It is easy to disregard our sleep with things like Netflix, we could easily sleep less than we did before. It also happens than when we are adults we sometimes feel like sleeping is something we can just ignore, no one is telling us to go to bed anymore. Most articles on sleeping agree that roughly we need about 7-8 hours sleep, however there is really not one-size-fits-all, we all need to find out sweet spot. So trying it out a couple of nights until you feel what correct number of hours is enough. Sleep deficiency not only makes you feel unrested, but it also affects memory, learning, creativity, productivity and emotional stability.
We sit way too much. In just about any type of job uses a computer, so we spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer screen. According to health statistics, a few hours of sitting can shorten your lifespan and can lead to higher risks of contracting heart diseases, although stand-up desks can be a good solution, when this option is not available, even sitting down properly through ergonomic and posture techniques you can reduce the harm of prolonged sitting. I hope this list helps to increase awareness to what some of the things we are doing wrong, because it would lead to smarter living and healthy life rhythms.
