There is a lot talk of abuse these days due to emerging cases of famous people beating their girlfriends, finances or wives. It is a new fad that in the media they want to explore the issue of abuse against women. Of course, many would argue that men are probably more abusive than ever and that chivalry is dead. It always makes me wonder, however, that whether it would be abuse against women or the shooting of a minority, such is the case of gunning down of a youngster in the town of Ferguson, there is always the singling down of a group. When there is talk of abuse, we talk of women, when it comes to abuse of force by the police, we talk of African-Americans or Hispanics. In reality, we should not create separation in this topic where there is clear outrage due to abuse. We should not just talk about abuse of women and say that is bad, yes it is bad. All abuse is bad, all use of force against another human being is bad. Why are we not talking about this as a society? In the year 2014, we are living the future, only 5 years from now we will in the imagination of sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, where the year of the future is 2019. Supposedly we are an advanced society, yet the hitting or use of physical force against human beings happens on a regular basis and many times for no apparent justifiable reason. Take for example the Knockout Challenge, where youngsters film themselves knocking out someone on the street, so they can have the “best” knockabout video. Or never mind this, how about the torture techniques implemended by many governments around the world. Yes it is true some groups get picked on more, women you can easily argue, Hispanics, Blacks, sure, but we should take stand and talk of eliminating physical violence altogether. Unless you must hits someone, because of self-defence I don’t see how it is justifiable that you hit another human being. Among the worse, to me, are parents who see it fit to hit their children, often they hit their children when they are babies or toddlers. I would extend this concept of physical abuse, and at this point I know I will be labelled a hippie, that we should not physically abuse animals and even plants. Because why would you want to do this to another sentient being period. We are sharing this space together, we are not the rulers of it.
