Many people talk about the inspirational power that some archaeological sites carry. For those who know, you would know I originate from Peru and those who know me more intimately would know that I was born in Cusco, Peru. Cusco was the legendary capital of the Incan empire. If you did not know this, The Incas were the empire that ruled most of Peru, parts of Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador. It was an extensive empire that ruled these region for more than 100 years. The Incas are responsible for the many archeological sites scattered around Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. One of the most recognizable sites and recognized as one of the New7Wonders by the New 7 Wonders Foundation is Machu Picchu. Why would Machu Picchu be a site that would instigate a feeling of inspiration? In the movie, The Motorcycle Dieries (2004), we see how the young Che Guevara makes a stop at Machu Picchu and it is there has a very clear realization. In the plot of the movie reads: “At Machu Picchu, Che is inspired to start a revolution to give rights back to the common worker and close the gap between the rich and the poor, proving once again that you have to see the world before you can change it.”
Well, The Incas were not only a very gregarious culture, always working and always building all kinds of structures. The Incas were also very knowledgeable in the areas of mathematics, medicine, astronomy and astrology. The Incas were well aware of the positioning of the stars and the cosmos and how all these movements have an impact over their way of life. Machu Picchu, as many sites in the world such as the pyramids in Giza, have a specific positioning meant to instigate a specific flow of energy and therefore become “in-sync” with the flow of energy of our own bodies. The type of result that this site evokes is a reportedly a feeling of peace. This is despite of the fact that you are in the jungle and therefore temperatures can scalage to 36 centigrades and with high jungle humidity, on top of that you are at about 2,400 meters over the sea level, which makes it hard to breath. Despite of all these, you do get a feeling of peace and it is not just because you are in awe to the construction of this very atypical site. It is because the Incas also were very knowledgeable on the topic of sacred geometry, which is simply the application of geometry, and under the belief that God created the universe, creating harmony by manipulation of shapes and numbers.
